So you think you'd like to cox? Great!

My name is Jaimie Gillespie and I'll be the Senior Cox for CCAT Boat Club for 2007/8 as well as your women's captain. As of this year we're looking to recruit as many new coxes as possible! Our boat club is growing every year, and it's nearly impossible to keep up with the demand for coxes! We need YOU!

Don't let anyone tell you coxing isn't a sport! As a cox you are just as part of the crew as the eight rowers you command. Don't worry about being shy or unathletic-- the great news is that the most you'll be exerting is your voice, and the shyness will be beaten right out of you! Of course that's a joke, but in all seriousness, I can't think of a better way to gain confidence in yourself and your abilities than being a cox. It transfers to all areas of life! Scared of public speaking? Not for long!

There are no particular physical characteristics needed to be a cox-- they come in all shapes, sizes, and GENDERS! Coxing is not just for the ladies, men! This year we're looking to have a more diverse group of coxes. Experienced or novice, we want you! It would be our privelage to get you trained and working with a crew ASAP. Be warned-- it's addictive!

So what all comes with the CCAT package, you ask? Early mornings (there's nothing better than a sunrise and an outing on the Cam to start the day!), teamwork unrivalled by any other sport (you show me a sport where the movements and efforts of every member must be perfectly cooridinated and timed and I'll show you a team!), competition (and hopefully trophies!), social skills (you can't NOT make friends here!), culture (we often formal with Cambridge University College Boat Clubs), the ability to hold your drink (Socials, Socials, SOCIALS!), networking (the people you meet here and the bonds you form with them are life-lasting), and history (the sport of rowing is a time-honored British passtime most firmly rooted in Cambridge).

If any of this appeals to you, PLEASE contact me at Jaimie.Gillespie@ccatbc.com and we'll set up a time to meet and get you in a boat

In addition to the training and experience you'll receive on the river and with time, please take full advantage of our Guide to Coxing and other helpful links!
